「人間は生まれながらにして完全な自由をもつ。人間はすべて平等であり、他の誰からも制約をうけない」

　このいい加減な、引用 or 要約 もどきは、おそらく、

の、下記部分と思われる。

4. To understand Political Power right, and derive it from its Original, we must consider what State all Men are naturally in , and that is, a State of perfect Freedom to order their Actions, and dispose of their Possessions, and Persons as they think fit, within the bounds of the Law of Nature, without asking leave, or depending upon the Will of any other Man.  p.269*

　政治上の権力を正しく理解し、また、それの起源をたずねる上に、私たちは、万人が自然的にはどのような状態にあるか、について考察しなくてはなら ない。すると、それは、自然の法の埒（らち）をこえない限りでは、他のなんぴとにも許可を求めず、あるいは、他のなんぴとの意思にも左右されず、自分の考 え一つでよしとしたところにしたがって、自分の行動を営み、また、右にしたがって自分の資産と身柄とを処理する、という・完全な自由の状態である。**

A State also of Equality, wherein all the Power and Jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another: there being nothing more evident, than that Creatures of the same species and rank promiscuously born to all the same advantages of Nature, and the use of the same faculties, should also be equal one amongst another without Subordination or Subjection, unlesss the Lord and Master of them all, should by any manifest Declaration of his Will set one above another, and confer on him by evident and clear appointment an undouted Right to Dominion and Sovereighnty.  p.269*

　それはまた、平等の状態でもある。すなわち、この状態では、権力と司法権とは、誰もがこれをお互いに相手の上にふるう。そして、他人より多くこれ を持っている者はひとりもいない。なぜなら、これより自明な事柄は一つもないのであるが、種属や等級を同じくする生物は、自然の・全く同一の諸便益を受け るため、そしてまた、同じ諸能力を利用するために、何らかのわけへだてもなく生をうけたのであり、したがって、彼らの間は当然平等であり、そこには、なに 一つ従属、ないし隷従関係があってはならないからである。もっとも、彼らすべての主であり主人である神が、なにについてでもよいその意思を明白に宣言し、 これによって一人の人間を他の上にすえ、また自明・明快な任命によって、この人間の手に、支配権と主権とにたいする・いもない権利を与えるのであれば、こ れはまた別である。**

　ここで最も重要なのは、藤原氏の文字通り《自由勝手な》に引用とは異なり、

‘within the bounds of the Law of Nature’

の語句があることである。《自由》とは、自然の法の下における《自由》であり、平等を論じた箇所でも同様で、おなじ自然法の下では、《諸人は同等の法的権利を持つ》という意味なのである。

　法の下で《自由》、法の下での《平等》。

　この《法＝正義》の概念が分からないという点では、藤原氏はサイテーだが、他の日本人諸氏も五十歩百歩だろう。この項、（そろそろ終わらせたいが）まだ続く。
