Confucius and Michael Polanyi

 Does "communicating" mean "getting the message across"? Being in the education industry, I always wonder about this. Michael Polanyi, a philosopher of science, says,

The possibility of teaching … is that we can do so only by relying on the pupil's intelligent co-operation for catching the meaning of the demonstrarion. (p.5)

Our message had left something behind that we could not tell, and its reception must rely on it that the person addressed will discover that which we have not been able to communicate. (p.6)

  This concern has been mentioned by Confucius for over two thousand years.

 I agree with them that the student's willingness to learn is very important. However, the other person is also an independent human being. We can't force them to change from "being forced to learn" to "wanting to learn. I am repeating the process of trial and error.
