"Faith in Theory" versus "Faith in Reality"（ Masao Maruyama ）
The following is an English translation of pp. 52-62 of Masao Maruyama, Nihon no shiso (The Idea of Japan), 1961, Tokyo, Iwanami Shoten.
The reason for this partial translation is that the subject matter raised in the book is a prominent one that has been frequently referred to in Japanese discourse from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. However, I do not believe that there is only an intellectual-historical problem in the specific historical context of postwar Japan. The rise of Marxism after World War II was a worldwide phenomenon. It is hard to imagine now, but Marxism was the leading intellectual item in the intellectual salons in the West at that time. I might add that in my personal assessment of this discussion, I feel there is a possibility of invoking a more universal set of issues apart from those, but I will post that as a separate article when I am ready.

丸山真男の「理論信仰」対「実感信仰」
丸山真男の非常に有名な（かつては？）、「理論信仰」対「実感信仰」、という議論ですが、これ、出典を読まれたことがない方（多分、若い方）も結構いるのではないでしょうか。出身学部が文系で、現在６０歳代以上の方なら、大学生協書籍部に必ず平積みされていたので、立ち読みくらい一度はされていたはずの、下記の書が出典です。

自治体の図書館なら、必ず蔵書されているでしょうが、買うのは勿論、図書館から借り出すのも、ちょっと億劫という方のために、本書の該当頁（10頁分）をテキスト化し、本ブログにupしておくこととしました。利用して頂ければ嬉しいです。

Why was European history a scandal? (2)
Earlier, we uploaded "Why was European history a scandal?" as our blog post. This was an excerpt （pp.37-42）from
Seki Hirono, "Why Capitalism was Born in Europe -Rethinking the History of the West and Japan-," NTT Publishing, March 2016.
In that quote, Seki Hirono uses the word "scandal". The word is used by the author, Seki Hirono, in that line, not in the sense we usually use in everyday language, such as "gossip," but in a more methodological use or context.
Accordingly, we felt concerned that this misalignment might mislead readers. Therefore, we have decided to upload the original Japanese text and English translation of the "Introduction" (pp. 3-6) of the book, in which Seki Kono himself explains the term "scandal," as an additional article on our blog. Seki Hirono and Feminism (1)
Looking back at Seki Hirono's work today, one thing that stands out is his active voice in feminist thought and movement. Of particular importance are "On Peace and Sovereignty in the House" (1986) and his review of Dolores Hayden "The Grand Domestic Revolution" (original 1981, Japanese translation 1984). Therefore, I would like to make these two almost-forgotten works accessible on the Internet in Japanese/English. As a first step, I would like to post the former one.

"Exoteric or Esoteric Buddhism" on the Principle of Self-Help
In the early modern era (1618-1648), the "Thirty Years' War," also known as World War zero, burned the central part of the European continent to the ground, and finally the authority of the Holy Roman Emperor and the Pope fell to the ground.
