「鐘」と「撞木」の弁証法、あるいは、プロンプトエンジニアリング（１）

社会学者の加藤秀俊が、『取材学』中公新書1975年に、interviewerとintervieweeの関係を、鐘と撞木に例えていました。鐘がすばらしく鳴るには、良い鐘であるとともに、撞き手の技量（問題領域に対する理解度、事前の準備、質問の工夫、質問者の知的水準、知的バックグラウンド）に左右される、と。まさに、chatGPT は、極めて優れた鐘であり、このAIに素晴らしい音を鳴らせることができるか否かは、この鐘の特性や傾向を理解して、どこを、どう撞けば、今の自分に最も有効な音をならせるか、という撞き手の手腕が露骨に出てしまう情勢まで、時代は来ているということです。


「問題の発見」「問題の定式化」「問題の提示」等に関して、その重要性を典型的に示すのは、数学の世界です。

Wataru Kuroda's "Epistemology"

 This article is based on the article "Ninshikiron Epistemology" in Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd edition (1999).

 When I happened to take a look at this article, I was so impressed by its excellent contents that I wondered who was in charge of this article, and upon checking the author of the article, I was convinced that it was the late Wataru Kuroda (philosopher, October 21, 1928 - May 31, 1989).

  No wonder, it gives a concise overview of the history of Western philosophy, covers some interesting topics, and concludes by presenting the contemporary significance/issues of "epistemology". One word: excellent writing.

Since this article has a copyright holder and is only partially published (unsigned) on the Internet, it would be illegal to post the full text, even privately, on this blog. However, it would be a shame for this brilliant finding to be buried in an encyclopedia entry. Therefore, as a fan of Wataru Kuroda, I have decided to (secretly) post it on this blog until I receive a request from the copyright holder to remove it.

黒田亘の「認識論」

　本記事は、平凡社世界大百科事典第２版（1999年）、の項目「認識論」を私的に掲示したものです。

　たまたま本項目を瞥見した際、その見事な内容に感銘を受け、いったい誰が担当したのかと思い、項目執筆者を確認しますと、それは故黒田亘氏（哲学者、1928年10月21日～1989年5月31日）であると知り納得しました。

　道理で、簡潔に西欧哲学史を概観しながら、興味深い話題も取り上げ、最後には「認識論」の現代的意義／課題を提示して結語としています。素晴らしいの一言。

　本記事には著作権者がおり、ネット上、部分的に公開（無署名）されているだけですので、私的ではあっても全文を本ブログに掲示するのは違法行為となります。しかし、この見事な知見が事典項目の中に埋もれてしまうのは如何にも惜しい。そこで、著作権者から削除依頼が来るまでは、黒田亘の一ファンとして（こっそり）本ブログに掲載させて頂くことにしました。

　人生のもっとも大きな喜びの一つは、年来の希望が実現した時、長年の努力が実を結んだ時に得られる。私のような研究者にとっては、長い間、心の中で暖めていた着想・構想が、一つの具体的な理論体系の形にまとまった時、そしてそれから出てくる結論が実験によって確認された時に、最も大きな生きがいが感ぜられる。しかし、そういう瞬間は、私たちの長い研究生活の間に、ごくまれにしか訪れない。私たちの人生のほとんど全部は、同じようなことのくりかえし、同じ平面の上でのゆきつもどりつのために費やされてしまう。日々の努力によって、相当前進したつもりになっていても、ふりかえってみると、結局、同じ平面の上の少し離れたところにきているにすぎないことを、あまりにもしばしば発見する。一つの段階からもう一つ上の段階に飛びあがれるのは、それこそ天の羽衣がきてなでるほどに、まれなことである。

　One of the greatest joys in life comes when a long-held hope is realized, when years of hard work bear fruit. For a researcher such as myself, the greatest satisfaction in life is when an idea or concept that has long been in the back of my mind comes together in the form of a concrete theoretical system, and when the conclusions that emerge from that system are confirmed by experimentation. Such moments, however, occur only rarely during our long research career. Almost all of our lives are spent repeating the same thing, going back and forth on the same plane. Too often, we look back and find that we are only a little farther along the same plane, even though we think we have made considerable progress through our daily efforts. It is so rare to jump from one level to the next that it is as if a heavenly robe of feathers were to come and stroke us.

The Body as Empirical Rationalist

　My bedtime routine is to do light exercise. 200 vertical jumps of about 5 cm in height. A round of radio calisthenics. 1000 arm swings using two 0.5 kg iron bells. All of this is done indoors. Every morning, I weigh myself on a Tanita electronic scale. I bought the Tanita six years ago because I felt I was in danger of gaining a little too much fat. I tried various workout routines, and was disappointed when I didn't see any results, so I stopped mid-workout, or skipped workouts with excuses to myself. It has been about 18 months since I settled on my current routine. Even now, I'm not sure if I'm doing it every day, but I've managed to keep up with it, with a few days off in between.
