なぜ、「他者」は「私」にとってリスペクトすべき存在なのか？／ Why should “others” be respected by “me”?

たとえ、どれほど愚かで、どれほど悪辣な他者であっても、実はその存在そのものが、自分を含む人間というものをより深く理解できる契機となり得る。少なくとも、かつそのかぎりにおいて、すべての他者は敬意を払うに足る存在と言える。

No matter how foolish or vicious others may be, their very existence can actually be an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of human beings, including ourselves. At the very least, and to that extent, all others are worthy of our respect.
